THE ART OF PORTRAITURE
4 part workshop on how we honor the images of others
The Art of Portraiture is a 4 part workshop series that digs deep into how to apply photographic technique and artistic approach to creating individual, group and object based photographs. Each session involves presentation, hans on practice and critique. Read below for session specifics:
Individual Portraits
DATES & TIME: Tuesday, April 18 & 25, 6-9PM
Two sessions provide instruction and practice in the art of the individual portraiture. From headshots, to actor/model portfolio, senior photos etc…. there are varying techniques and approaches artists should gain comfort with in order to get it right and honor the person being photographed. These two sessions include limited instruction, the use of models, hands-on practice and portfolio critique. Each session will be 3 hours in length.
Group Portraiture
DATES & TIME: Tuesday, May 2 & 9, 6-9PM
Two sessions provide instruction and practice in the art of group portraiture. From family portraits, proms, wedding events, and memorable moments, there are varying techniques and approaches artists should gain comfort with in order to get it right and honor those being photographed. These two sessions include limited instruction, the use of models, hands-on practice and portfolio critique. Each session will be 3 hours in length.
Participation
Participants are expected to meet outside of these sessions to work in groups to reinforce their skill sets. The instructor will schedule these sessions with the group and be available as needed to supervise, correct and provide critique on their process.
LEAD ARTIST
In Progress artist Tomas Leal is a freelance photographer and the owner of Leal Studios, providing services in photography, videography, graphic design, art curation & consultation. Leal also works as a teaching artist, for youth and adults. His expertise is in portraiture and event photography but is a very versatile photographer, versatile photographer, as he works in product and real estate photography.

The Independent Photographer is an intermediate level workshop series for emerging artists that are ready to take the next steps towards their professional development. We are seeking 8 participants for this series with an expectation that those that are accepted to the program will commit to the entire process.
