CONVERGENCE COHORT TRAINING SERIES
PROFESSIONAL INSTRUCTION IN THE ART OF CINEMATIC CAMERAS
Cinema Technique offers a critical practicum in the use of 2 cinematic cameras available through In Progress for use by trained filmmakers. .These cameras - The Black Magic and the Canon EOS C70 are high quality cinematic cameras that lend themselves well to professional narrative and documentary filmmakers. The workshop series takes participants through in-depth training the technical application of these cameras and the tools that are used around them to take your visual storytelling to the next level. MIRRORLESS & CINEMA CAMERAS / BUILDING A CAMERA
Overview of DSLR Mirrorless, and Cinema Cameras. Session includes a technical hands on overview, and an in depth presentation on the what cameras are best suited for different creative environments. This session will also include a review of lenses/lens control, monitors, sound, timecode and the use of camera build accessories.
CINEMATOGRAPHY
This session will look at the tools used for camera positioning and operation including tripods, sticks, shoulder rigs, slders and gimbals. The session will also include a review of lens choices, focal length, depth of field and the use of framing in telling a visual story.
LIGHTING
This session will look at how light is used within the framework of cinematography. Presentation and practice will include an overview of the types of equipment used in film production including lights, light stands, C-stands and more. The use of color and 3 point lighting set up for the moving image.
LEAD ARTIST
Cinema Technique is led by In Progress artist Touchaingkong Yang. Touchaing is a Twin Cities photographer and filmmaker. When not capturing visuals with a camera, he mentors upcoming and current artists in technique and technical operations of the camera and lights. He hopes that through creating and teaching, he can help others find their voice to tell their stories.
PARTICIPATION
This workshop is designed for emerging artists that have an intermediate level understanding of DSLR cameras and are seeking a comprehensive understanding of the role of a DP (director of cinematography). Artists that are experienced are also welcome to join and add to the conversation. This workshop series is mandatory for any artist interested in being certified for higher end camera loans (Canon EOS C70 & Blackmagic).

The Professional is an intermediate level workshop series for emerging artists that are ready to take the next steps towards their professional development. We are seeking 8 participants for this series with an expectation that those that are accepted to the program will commit to the process.
