The Digital Start Up offers hands on learning opportunities for photographers that want to learn more about business based photography, These first two sessions are the first in a series of activities that are designed to strengthen the technical skills and business acumen of freelance photographers. Sessions include a mix of hands on instruction, group work sessions and opportunities to shadow professionals as they work. Our first sessions are as follows:

Product PhoTOgraphy

DATES & TIME:  Tuesday, MAY 17, 6-9PM

This session will provide specific instruction in how to light and photograph products for sale. The session will review table top photography techniques, lighting and what types of lenses work best for this work. This is a hands-on session, that takes participants through a variety of aspects of product based photography.

FOOD PhoTOgraphy

DATES & TIME:  Tuesday, MAY 23, 6-9PM

This session will provide specific instruction in how to light and photograph food products - with an emphasis in restaurant photography. The session will review staging, photography techniques, lighting and what types of lenses work best for this work. This is a hands-on session, that takes participants through a variety of aspects of product based photography.

participation

Participants are expected to meet outside of these sessions to work in groups to reinforce their skill sets.  The instructor will schedule these sessions with the group and be available as needed to supervise, correct and provide critique on their process.

Lead Artist

In Progress artist Tomas Leal is a freelance photographer and the owner of Leal Studios, providing services in photography, videography, graphic design, art curation & consultation.   Leal also works as a teaching artist, for youth and adults. His expertise is in portraiture and event photography but is a very versatile photographer, versatile photographer, as he works in product and real estate photography.

The Independent Photographer is an intermediate level workshop series for emerging artists that are ready to take the next steps towards their professional development. We are seeking 8 participants for this series with an expectation that those that are accepted to the program will commit to the entire process.
