BIOGRAPHY

Thaw Hso, also known by his artistic name Thunder, is an emerging multimedia artist from Saint Paul, Minnesota. With a passion for storytelling rooted in both music and film, Thunder has been developing his craft since the age of 13, when he first began recording the music of his friends. That early experience sparked a lifelong interest in using sound and visuals to express stories that matter—stories that reflect identity, community, and imagination.

A graduate of Gordon Parks High School, Thunder is largely self-taught, having spent his early teen years independently learning the basics of music production and filmmaking. By age 15, he began formalizing his knowledge by participating in programs at Film North, Saint Paul Neighborhood Network (SPNN), and the Minneapolis Institute of Art. These experiences helped him refine his technical skills while expanding his creative vision.

Currently, Thunder is continuing to grow as an artist through In Progress, where he is building professional-level skills in video production, music composition, and digital storytelling. His artistic goal is to uplift underrepresented voices and to create work that inspires connection and reflection. Whether working behind the camera, crafting lyrics, or designing soundscapes, Thunder is driven by a deep commitment to creative growth and community impact.

QUALIFICATIONS 

Thunder is experienced in independent and collaborative filmmaking, with hands-on practice in both pre-production and post-production processes. He is a skilled lyricist and beatmaker, with a growing portfolio of original music compositions. His background also includes sound design, visual editing, and directing short narrative pieces. Through his work with In Progress and other local arts organizations, Thunder continues to expand his technical expertise while nurturing his distinctive artistic voice.
