BIOGRAPHY
MC Mel is a rapper, spoken word poet, and emcee who uses her music to express her views about identity, struggle, growth, community, and social change issues. She is a live performer who comes from a culture where people are traditionally soft spoken; however, her art form allows her to speak out loud about life topics, issues, and struggles as a first generation born, Hmong-American female. Currently, MC Mel aka Malia works to be a catalyst for change on and off the stage and is a part Fresh Vibes which is an initiative to elevate her community utilizing local youths, artists, and community members to not only facilitate positive change in the development of their own neighborhoods; but to also equip them with the skills to take an active role in promoting diversity, teamwork and collaboration cohesively to achieve shared goals.
