critical practicum in digital photography basics
Photographic Technique offers a critical practicum in digital photography basics. This workshop series will introduce and further reinforce key technical skills of digital photography. Skills taught will emphasize commercial/independent approaches that will increase participants’ versatility in the world of the independent photographer. This workshop series is limited to 8 participants that have some photographic experience. Only those willing to attend the full training series will be accepted. BACKDROPS
DATE & TIME: Tuesday, March 21, 2023. 6-9PM
Hands on instruction in the art photographing with backdrops. Session includes technical overview, discussion regarding what types of backdrops are available, and how artists can build their own set of backdrop resources.
LIGHTING
DATE & TIME: Tuesday, March 28, 2023. 6-9PM
Hands on instruction in the art photographing with backdrops. Session includes technical overview, discussion regarding what types of backdrops are available, and how artists can build their own set of backdrop resources.
CAMERAS & LENSES
DATE & TIME: Tuesday, April 4, 2023. 6-9PM
Hands on instruction in the art photographing with different cameras & lenses. Includes discussion regarding what types of cameras and lenses are available through In Progress and how artists can build their own set of photo related resources.
PRACTICE
DATE & TIME: Tuesday, April 11, 2023. 6-9PM
Participants put to work what they have learned by setting up different photographic stations and begin photographing volunteer models. The group will rotate head shots stations, formal portraiture, and more.
Participation
Participants are expected to meet outside of these sessions to work in groups to reinforce their skill sets. The instructor will schedule these sessions with the group and be available as needed to supervise, correct and provide critique on their process.
LEAD ARTIST
In Progress artist Tomas Leal is a freelance photographer and the owner of Leal Studios, providing services in photography, videography, graphic design, art curation & consultation. Leal also works as a teaching artist, for youth and adults. His expertise is in portraiture and event photography but is a very versatile photographer, having worked in product and real estate photography in the past.

The Independent Photographer is an intermediate level workshop series for emerging artists that are ready to take the next steps towards their professional development. We are seeking 8 participants for this series with an expectation that those that are accepted to the program will commit to the entire process.
