Portraiture & Meaning offers insight into the art of portraiture. Artists Kazua Melissa Vang & Tomas Leal will show examples of how they approach photography and highlight the differences between commercial, independent and fine art approaches. PRESENTERS

Portraiture & Meaning features In Progress artists Tomas Leal and Kazua Melissa Vang. Tomas is a freelance photographer and the owner of Leal Studios, providing services in photography, videography, graphic design, art curation & consultation.   Kazua, a Hmong American born and raised in Minnesota, is an artist, photographer, and multi-manager for various productions. She received her Bachelor’s of Arts from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, with a focus on Photography, Printmaking, and Book Arts.

The Independent Photographer is an intermediate level workshop series for emerging artists that are ready to take the next steps towards their professional development. We are seeking 8 participants for this series with an expectation that those that are accepted to the program will commit to the entire process.
