My family once lived in a house that a spring sprung up in our living room. I swam across the mighty Mother Mekong River with plastic bags strapped around our waists and a rope tied my father, my older brother and an elder cousin together. As one school of traditional Hmong fengshui taught, there are 4 celestial animal deities that guard our spiritual realm: the phoenix represents the sky, the turtle stood as the mountain, the tiger is of the land and the eastern (Asian) dragon is the sea. Thus I have always been fearful and respectful of deep blue water bodies, but very fond of small running creeks.
