Randy Xiong is a filmmaker and hobbyist music producer based in the Twin Cities, Minnesota. He earned his B.A. in Communications from the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities in 2016 and has been dedicated to building his creative practice ever since. Randy’s passion for storytelling has led him to work on a wide range of film projects—from intimate short films to larger productions that have earned festival recognition.

Notably, Randy served as 2nd Assistant Camera on NICE, a pilot created by Naomi Ko and directed by Andrew Ahn, which premiered at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival in New York. He also worked as grip and gaffer on Hmong Organization, a pilot directed by Kang Vang and created by May Lee-Yang and Peter Yang, as well as 1st Assistant Director on Dan Yang’s Spirits Dawn. His leadership roles have included serving as 1st Assistant Director on projects like Rhaub (written and directed by Melissa Vang) and In Between (directed by Touchaingkong Yang).

Beyond production roles, Randy has continued to write, direct, and act in original content such as the CAAL Social Media Video Intergenerational Voting. He is also expanding his expertise in sound and music, most recently contributing audio work, sound design, and original scoring for Melissa Vang’s The Chaperones and PaChia Vang’s Stitch. Balancing his interests in visual storytelling and music production, Randy remains committed to honing his craft, collaborating with other artists, and sharing authentic, culturally rich narratives with audiences.

QUALIFICATIONS

Randy Xiong is an experienced filmmaker skilled in writing, directing, and production management. He has worked across multiple roles on set, including 2nd Assistant Camera (NICE), grip/gaffer (Hmong Organization), and 1st Assistant Director on several short films such as Spirits Dawn, Rhaub, In Between, and The Wind Strikes the Highest Mountain.

As a creative artist, Randy brings expertise in storyboarding, logistics planning, and project coordination. He is also a music producer and composer with experience in music arrangement, lyric writing, and audio mixing, using FL Studio 20 to create original scores and sound design for film and video projects. His recent work includes sound design, audio mixing, and composing music for The Chaperones and Stitch, demonstrating a versatile skill set that bridges filmmaking and music production to deliver compelling, immersive storytelling.
